SWARTHMORE, Pa. - A goal by Austin Ray with 13 seconds remaining in regulation forced overtime but the Red Hawks could not get the game-winner and the Rensselaer men's lacrosse team lost to Swarthmore, 8-7 in double overtime in a non-league contest.

Junior attack Gavin Musynske (Floral Park, NY/Floral Park Memorial) scored on a shot from in close on the left wing with 1:38 remaining in the second extra session to give the home team the victory.  Rensselaer controlled the ball off the initial faceoff of the second overtime but could not score before the Garnet.

RPI's Brett Evans (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford) put the Red Hawks in front with the first goal of the game at 13:19 of the first quarter - the first of three for him on the day - before Swarthmore scored the next three for a two-goal lead.  Rensselaer pulled to within one, 3-2, on a goal by freshman Andrew Miller (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford) to close out the opening stanza.

Freshman Brian Larkin (Florham Park, NJ/Seton Hall Prep.), who won 10 faceoffs in the contest, tied the game 1:40 into the second quarter but the Garnet tallied the next goal for a one-goal lead at halftime.

Evans scored the only two goals of the third quarter, in which RPI held a 9-2 advantage in shots, and the Red Hawks led by one, 5-4, heading into the fourth.

Swarthmore freshman Max Hubbard (Washington, DC/St. Alban's) scored the next three goals for a 7-5 advantage before Rensselaer tallied twice in the final 44 seconds to force overtime.  Junior Paul Cerone (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield) got RPI to within one goal at 14:16 before Ray (Sandwich, MA/Tabor Academy), a freshman, scored with just 13 ticks left on the clock.

After a scoreless first overtime, Musynske's 14th goal of the year ended the game in a win for the Garnet, who improve to 5-5.  Junior Kevin Friedenberg (Needham, MA/Needham) made 11 saves for the win.

For Rensselaer, which falls to 5-6, Evans added four shots on goal, while Miller chipped in with two assists and three ground balls.  Senior Ryan DeJordy (Albany, NY/Columbia) made nine saves in defeat for the Red Hawks, who held a 38-25 advantage in shots.
