POTSDAM, N.Y. - Senior Elson Pickering had a game-high 15 points and two others reached double digits to lead the Clarkson men's basketball team to a 71-64 win over Rensselaer in Liberty League action. The Golden Knights improve to 8-4 overall and 2-0 in the league. RPI falls for just the third time in 12 games. The Engineers are now 1-1 in the Liberty League.
Clarkson held a 28-25 lead at halftime and built it to 10 points within the first five minutes of the second frame. They were able to maintain a double-digit advantage for much of the second half for the victory, their fifth in the last seven games (including a loss at Division I Cornell).
Senior guard
Eric Anderson (Merrimack, NH/Merrimack) was RPI's leading scorer with 10 points. Eight other student-athletes also scored. Classmate
Ricky Philatre (Randolph, MA/Randolph) added eight points and a game-high nine rebounds.
In addition to Pickering's double-digit effort (Brooklyn, NY/Frederick Douglass Academy), the Golden Knights saw Brandon Linton (Queens, NY/Holy Cross) score 13 points, including 7 for 7 from the free throw line. Jonathan Hood (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Walter Panas) added 11 points.
