SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Senior Joey Lokitis scored 20 points and freshman Keven Donohue had 15 to lead Union College to a 64-59 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in a Liberty League men's basketball game at Viniar Athletic Center. With the win the Dutchmen remain in first place in the league with an 8-4 record. They are 12-10 overall. The Engineers fall to 5-6 and 13-8.

The first half was close throughout, with neither team gaining an advantage of more than four points. RPI's Mike Brion (Nashua, NH / Bishop Guertin) led all scorers with eight first half points. Teammate Tim Rupp (Staten Island, NY / Curtis) added six points and five rebounds.

For Union, Donohue (Hudson Falls, NY / Hudson Falls) and Lokitis (Norton, MA / Phillips Academy) had seven points apiece at the break.

The second half was much like the first until Union gained the advantage down the stretch. With the game tied, 55-55, the Dutchmen scored the next five points – on a traditional three-point play by Drew Goldstein (Philadelphia, PA / The Haverford School) and a jumper by Donohue – and never trailed. RPI pulled to within three points, 60-57, with 1:17 left but could get no closer.

Lokitis, who was celebrating Senior Day on his last regular season home game, made 7 of 13 shots, including three from behind the arc, to lead all scorers. He also had six rebounds, three assists, three steals and a blocked shot. Donohue made 6 of 13 shots, while chipping in with seven rebounds. Junior forward Matt Covucci (LaGrangeville, NY / Our Lady of Lourdes) led all players with 13 rebounds. He also scored seven points.

Senior forward Ricky Philatre (Randolph, MA / Randolph) led Rensselaer with 16 points, followed by Brion, who finished with 13. Philatre also had five rebounds, while Brion pulled down seven. Rupp finished the game with eight points and nine rebounds.

Rensselaer is back in action on Tuesday night at league foe Vassar. Union next plays on Friday night at Clarkson in a Liberty League contest. Both games begin at 8pm.
