TROY, N.Y. – Senior Paul Kerins scored on a deflection from in front at 13:15 of the third period to give the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's hockey team a 3-3 tie with St. Lawrence University in an ECAC Hockey contest at the Houston Field House. RPI (14-12-3; 7-6-2) drops to sixth place in the standings, while the Saints (14-9-5; 8-4-3) fall to fourth despite them each earning a point.

With the visitors holding a 3-2 lead, Kerins (Weston, ON/North York Rangers) knotted the score when he knocked a Jeff Foss (Moorhead, MN/Moorhead High School) shot from the blueline past St. Lawrence netminder Kain Tisi (Mississauga, ON/St. Michael's) with less than seven minutes to play.

The Engineers broke out on top at 8:28 of the first period when freshman Marty O'Grady (London, ON/Wellington Dukes) scored off a backhanded shot from the bottom of the left faceoff circle. O'Grady started the play by stealing a pass and sending the puck toward the net. Classmate Brandon Pirri (Toronto, ON/Georgetown Raiders), who also assisted on the goal by Kerins, deflected the puck on net but was stopped. The rebound came out to a cutting O'Grady, who notched his eighth goal of the year.

The Saints tied the game 4:32 later when senior defenseman Derek Keller (Wilkie, SK/North Battleford) jumped into the offensive zone with both teams skating four aside and scored around RPI netminder Allen York (Wetaskiwin, AB/Camrose Kodiaks). Forwards Nick Pitsikoulis (Montreal, PQ/Westminster Prep) and Mike McKenzie (Whitby, ON/St. Michael's), who cycled the puck in the RPI zone, earned the assists.

The Engineers regained the lead on a goal by sophomore Alex Angers-Goulet (St. Augustin, PQ/Langley Chiefs), who stuffed in a loose puck from just outside the crease. Bryan Brutlag (Lakeville, MN/Academy of Holy Angels), who brought the puck down the right side and sent the puck toward the goal, earned the lone assist.

The Saints took a 3-2 lead with two quick goals in the second period. Aaron Bogosian (Massena, NY/Cedar Rapids) scored a power play goal just 59 seconds into the period and McKenzie tallied less than three minutes later. Bogosian's goal came from the bottom of the right faceoff circle, while McKenzie deflected a Keller pass over York while driving toward the net from the left faceoff circle. The point was the third of the night for McKenzie.

York finished with 26 saves for the Engineers, who were 0 for 6 on the power play. Tisi had 19 stops for St. Lawrence, who scored a power play goal on five attempts and was successful on six penalty killing situations. The Saints have not allowed an extra-man goal in their last 35 shorthanded situations.

RPI is right back at home on Saturday night to face Clarkson in another league game. St. Lawrence travels to league foe Union on Saturday. Both games begin at 7pm.
