TROY, N.Y. – Senior Joel Malchuk scored the game-tying goal with 8:17 left in the second period as the Rensselaer men's hockey team battled to a, 2-2, tie with Quinnipiac, on Senior Night at the Houston Field House. With the draw, the Engineers move to 19-10-5 overall and conclude their ECAC Hockey regular season schedule with an 11-9-2 mark. The Bobcats are now 13-13-8 and 6-9-7 in conference play.

Rensselaer finished the regular season in fifth place and takes on 12th place Colgate in a best-of-three series, next weekend at the Houston Field House. Quinnipiac, which ended up in eighth, hosts ninth place Brown in a three-game series beginning on Friday as well. All games are scheduled for 7pm starts.

Freshman defenseman Guy Leboeuf (West Palm Beach, FL/Cornwall Colts) got the Engineers on the board first, scoring his second goal of the season on a slap shot from the right point. Senior Tyler Helfrich (Calgary, AB/Prince George Spruce Kings) worked the puck to the left point for classmate John Kennedy (Saginaw, MI/St. Louis Bandits), who found Lebouef with a cross-ice pass.

Quinnipiac junior centerman Jeremy Bouharevich (Montreal, PQ/N.H. Jr. Monarchs) tied the game at 2:44 of the second period when he picked up a loose puck outside the crease and pushed a backhanded shot under the stick of RPI junior netminder Allen York (Wetaskiwin, AB/Camrose Kodiaks). Assists were credited to junior Spencer Heichman (Yorba Linda, CA/Sioux City) and sophomore Mike Dalhuisen (Nymegen, Holland/Lincoln).

Freshman Brooks Robinson (Duncan, BC/Fort McMurray) gave the Bobcats a brief 2-1 lead on his second goal of the year, tipping in a point shot by sophomore Zack Currie (Victoria, BC/Cowichan Valley). Classmate Ben Arnt (Oakdale, MN/Ohama) earned the second helper on Robinson's tally, which came at 7:14 of the second.

Malchuk (Brandon, MB/Dauphin Kings) pulled the hosts even (2-2) at 11:43 of the frame, when he slapped in a rebound off a shot by sophomore Greg Burgdoerfer (East Setauket, NY/Air Force Academy). With his back to the goal, Malchuk turned to his right and flipped in his sixth tally of the season.

York finished with 25 saves, while Eric Hartzell (White Bear Lake, MN/Sioux City) stopped 31 shots on the other end.
