SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - Senior attack Devin Arnold scored three times and sophomore goaltender James Manchester made 17 saves, including several with under a minute to play and the Engineers down a man, and the Rensselaer men's lacrosse team defeated Union, 9-7, in the regular season finale for both teams.  RPI improves to 10-5 overall and 4-2 in the league.  The Dutchmen are 10-4 and 4-2.  Both teams play in the league tournament next weekend.

Rensselaer jumped out to a 4-0 lead three minutes into the second quarter behind goals from four different players.  Conor Chocoles and Nick Billy scored in the first and Wes Rudy and Arnold scored early in the second.  Union's Ted McKenna stopped the run with a man-up goal at 8:56 of the second quarter.  RPI's Scott O'Leary answered with 1:16 remaining and an apparent goal by Arnold at the end of the second quarter was deemed to have been scored after the buzzer so the Engineers led by four, 5-1, at the half.

Union scored four of the next five goals into the early stages of the fourth quarter to cut its deficit to one goal, 6-5.  RPI came back to score three of the next four, including two by Arnold, and led 9-6 with 7:36 left in the period.  A Nate Greenberg goal pulled the home team to within one goal with 2:52 to go but Manchester shut the door, making numerous stops from that point on.

Union's Sean Aaron made nine saves in net for the loss.  For the game, the Engineers held a 31-22 advantage on ground balls, while the Dutchmen held a 38-23 advantage in shots

RPI is the fourth seed in the Liberty League Tournament and plays at top-seeded Skidmore on Friday at 4pm.  Union is the second seed and will host third-seeded Clarkson on Friday.
