CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Freshman Jimmy Vesey scored two goals to lead the 14th-ranked Harvard University men's hockey team to a, 4-0, victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), this evening in ECAC Hockey action at Bright Hockey Center. With the win, the Crimson improve to 3-2-0 (2-2-0 ECACH), while the Engineers drop to 1-5-2 (0-4-0 ECACH).

Harvard peppered the RPI net in the first period before scoring 9:05 into the frame on a redirection just outside the crease by senior Marshall Everson (Edina, MN/Edina). Classmate Alex Fallstrom (Stockholm, Sweden/Shattuck-St. Mary's) threw the puck towards goal for Everson, who tipped it through the legs of RPI senior netminder Bryce Merriam (Bethel Park, PA/Topeka RoadRunners).

Merriam made 20 of his 34 saves in the second period alone.

The Crimson made it 2-0 at 14:14 of the first, when freshman Brian Hart (Cumberland, ME/Phipps Exeter Academy) skated in on a two-on-one and ripped a shot over the right shoulder of Merriam for his first collegiate tally. Sophomore Ryan McGregor (Ebmatingen, Switzerland/ZSC) picked up the lone assist.

Vesey (North Reading, MA/South Shore) netted the first of his two goals at 9:14 of the second. He then added an empty-net goal with 3.3 seconds left in the third.

Harvard junior goaltender Raphael Girard (Saint-Hyacinthe, PQ/Northwood) earned his second shutout, stopping all 24 shots he faced.

The Engineers are back in action next weekend, when they return to the Houston Field House for a two-game series against non-league foe Mercyhurst.
