Box Score

MILWAUKEE, Wisc. - Brendan Farley scored 26 points and Jamie Zajac added 17 to help the Rensselaer men's basketball team to a 106-97 win over CalTech in the consolation game of the season-opening All-Engineers Classic hosted by Milwaukee School of Engineering. Zajac, a senior guard, was selected to the All-Tournament Team.

The Engineers fell behind by 10 points, 16-6, five minutes into the game and were down by 17 points, 31-14, four minutes later. A 14-2 run by Rensselaer pulled it to within five points with 7:27 left in the first half, but the Beavers held RPI off and led by nine, 53-44 at halftime.

CalTech scored the first two points of the second half but a 9-0 run by Rensselaer put the score at 55-53 four minutes into the second frame. The Beavers countered to go back ahead by eight points, 68-60 with 12:51 remaining, but the Engineers again came back. This time RPI was able to take the lead, its first of the game, 70-68, on a Nick Keefe jumper with 10:55 left. The game was back-and-forth for the next four minutes before Rensselaer built a six-point lead with 78:32 to go. RPI led from that point on, including a 10-point margin (101-91) with just over three minutes to go.

In addition to Farley and Zajac, three others reached double digits in points for the Engineers. Freshman Ghedali Gold-Pastor scored 13 points, classmate Tyler Gendron had 11 points and Keefe finished with 10.

RPI makes its home debut on Tuesday when it hosts Sage (8pm) as part of a doubleheader with the women's team (6pm).
