Men's Hoops Drops Season Finale to Clarkson

Golden Knights build 20-point halftime lead in 100-78 win

TROY, N.Y. – Senior guard Felix Llanos netted a game-high 33 points to lead the Clarkson University men's basketball team to a, 100-78, victory over Rensselaer in the regular season finale for both schools. With the win the Golden Knights conclude their season with a 16-9 overall record (9-7 Liberty League), while the Engineers finish at 10-14 (7-9 Liberty League).

Llanos (Queens, NY/Holy Cross) scored 16 of his game-high 33 points in a first half, in which Clarkson outscored the Engineers, 51-31, on 51.2% (21 for 41) shooting, including 50.0% (7 for 14) from beyond the arc. Freshman John Coleman (Potsdam, NY/Potsdam) also had a big opening frame, dropping 14 points on 6 of 9 shooting.

Rensselaer received six and five first-half points from seniors Matt Dixon (Troy, NY/Tamarac) and Matthew Pooley (Middletown, NY/Chapel Field Christian School), respectively.

After shooting just 30.0% (12 for 40) in the first half, the Engineers picked up their offensive production in the second stanza, scoring 47 points on 43.5% (20 for 46) shooting from the floor. Junior Erik Hatton (Alkinson, NH/Timberlane Regional) scored nine of team-best 11 points in the second half on 5 of 6 field goals.

Clarkson held RPI at bay throughout the second half as the Engineers never climbed within 20 points.

Pooley finished with 10 points, while Dixon had eight points and four rebounds. Junior Daniel Martin (Cohasset, MA/Cohasset) recorded six points, six boards and two blocked shots. The Golden Knights saw senior Jerry Coleman (Potsdam, NY/Potsdam) score 20 points and grab eight rebounds, while his brother John ended up with a double-double of 18 points and boards.
