TROY, N.Y. – Andrew Calof, Rob Kleebaum and Andrew Ammon each notched a pair of goals to lead the Princeton University men's hockey team to a 6-2 victory over Rensselaer, this evening in ECAC Hockey action at the Houston Field House. With the win, the Tigers improve to 8-13-6 (6-11-3 ECACH), while the Engineers drop to 8-21-3 (5-12-3 ECACH).

The Tigers found the scoreboard first directly off a face-off in the offensive zone. Sophomore Jack Berger (St. Louis, MO) won the puck back to classmate Andrew Ammon (Aldie, VA) at the top of the left circle, who buried a shot inside the left pipe. The goal, which came at 11:56 of the opening frame, was Ammon's third of the season.

Rensselaer Senior Mike Bergin (Ottawa, ON/Smiths Falls Bears) answered at 16:14 of the first period to knot the game at 1-1. A rebounds popped out the right point for the defenseman, who one-timed home his first of the year. Sophomore Johnny Rogic (North Vancouver, BC/Alberni Valley Bulldogs) and senior Josh Rabbani (Woodland Hills, CA/St. Louis Bandits) earned the assists.

Princeton broke on top once again at 3:36 of the second period, when junior Rob Kleembaum (Sherwood Park, AB) brought the puck into the zone up the right wing boards and ripped a shot past RPI junior netminder Bryce Merriam (Bethel Park, MD/Topeka RoadRunners) for the tally.

Calof gave the visitors a 3-1 lead just 1:50 later, when he took a backhand feed from senior Marc Hagel (Hamilton, ON) at the side of the cage. Junior Will MacDonald (Atlanta, GA) also earned an assist on the play.

RPI senior Justin Smith (Hammonds Plains, NS/Langley Chiefs) found Rabbani all alone in the low slot for the one-timer finish that pulled the Engineers to within 3-2 at 6:53 of the second. Freshman Curtis Leonard (Napanee, ON/Wellington Dukes) also picked up a helper on Rabbani's first of the season.

Calof earned his second goal of the game when he got behind the RPI defense and lifted a shot over a sprawling Scott Diebold (Buffalo, NY/Tri-City Storm) for a 4-2 Princeton lead, with 9:10 to play in the second period. The Tigers then converted on a 5-on-3 power-play opportunity, to make it 5-2, with 4:58 to in the second. Keelbaum picked out the top right corner of the net for his second of the game.

Ammon capped the scoring at 8:11 of the third period, as Berger picked up his second helper of the night.

Mike Condon (Needham, MA) recorded the win in net for the Tigers, making 24 saves. Merriam made six stops in 25:26 of work, before being relieved by Diebold, who made 10 saves. Senior Jeremy Coupal (Mt-St-Hilaire, PQ/Tilton School) made his collegiate debut with 5:49 remaining in the third and stopped the only shot he faced.

The Engineers return to the ice next Friday and Saturday, when they visit Colgate (7pm) and Cornell (7pm), in their final regular season weekend of 2011-12.
