TROY, N.Y. – Junior Matt Tinordi scored the eventual game-winning goal and freshman goaltender Jason Kasdorf made 32 saves as the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's hockey defeated Colgate University, 2-1, this evening in ECAC Hockey action from the Houston Field House. With the win, the Engineers improve to 7-10-5 (2-6-3), while the Raiders drop to 11-8-2 (3-5-1).

Tinordi (Severna, MD/Olds Grizzlys) snapped a shot from between the circles into the top right corner of the net to give the Engineers the lead for good at 12:14 of the third period. Sophomores Mark McGowan (Toronto, ON/Oakville Blades) and Matt Neal (Minesing, ON/Stoufville Spirit) moved the puck through the neutral zone to Tinordi to earn the assists.

A tightly contested first period saw Colgate outshoot the Engineers, 13-9. RPI did hit the post twice, while Raiders freshman Darcy Murphy (Maryville, ON/Wellington Dukes) rang a shot off the pipe at the other end of the ice. Colgate found the frame of the net four times in all.

Junior Johnny Rogic (North Vancouver, BC/Alberni Valley Bulldogs) scored off the stick of a Colgate defenseman at 16:35 of the second period to give the hosts a 1-0 lead. Assist went to seniors Nick Bailen (Fredonia, NY/Indiana Ice) and Greg Burgdoerfer (East Setauket, NY/Air Force Academy).

Colgate tied the game at 1-1, early in the third. Freshman Tylor Spink (Williamstown, ON/Cornwall Colts) stuffed the puck past Kasdorf (Winnipeg, MB/Des Moines Buccaneers) for his seventh of the season. The goal, which came on the power-play, was assisted by freshman Tyson Spink (Williamstown, ON/Cornwall Colts) and senior captain Jeremy Price (Milton, ON/Nepean).

Kasdorf (3-1-2) made 13 of his 32 stops in the first period and 12 in the third. Colgate freshman netminder Spencer Finney (Pontypool, ON/Trenton Golden Hawks) had 26 stops at the other end of the ice.

The Engineers are back in action tomorrow night, when they host 16th-ranked Cornell University (7pm). Colgate travels to Schenectady to take on 17th-ranked Union College (7pm).
