TROY, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's and men's basketball teams have concluded non-league action and both teams open their Liberty League schedules with home contests at East Campus Arena on Friday. The women face William Smith College at 6pm, while the men host Hobart College at 8pm. There is no admission charge to attend games.
RPI's women's team, which is led by 12th-year head coach
John Greene, is 6-3. The Engineers have been idle since December 8 when they broke for exams and the holidays.
Rensselaer averages 64.7 points per game, while holding the opposition to 61.1 points. Graduate student Sarah Wetmore (Sudbury, MA / Lincoln Sudbury Regional) is first on the team with 17.6 points per game, which ranks third in the league. She also has team-highs of 6.2 rebounds per game and 26 steals. A two-time All-Liberty League selection, Wetmore also has 17 assists while averaging 28.2 minutes per game.
Sophomore Jen Rock (Byfield, MA / Triton Regional) is second in points (9.1 per game), rebounds (5.8 per game) and steals (20). The league's Rookie of the Year in 2011-12, she leads the team in assists (21), blocks (6) and minutes (34.0 per game).
The Engineers finished second in the Liberty League last season, posting a 10-6 record. Rensselaer was picked to finish third in this year's standings behind St. Lawrence University, the regular season champion a season ago, and Vassar College, which won the league tournament last year.
RPI's men's team enters league play with a 6-4 record under 29th-year head coach Mike Griffin. The Engineers, who returned from a three-week break on Sunday, score a league-high 86.2 points per game while allowing 88.9.

Brendan Farley (Burlington, MA / Burlington) leads the team in scoring, averaging 14.3 points per game, while classmate
Jamie Zajac (Merrimack, NH / Bishop Guertin) is second with 12.6 points per contest. Zajac leads the team in assists (30) and steals (17), while
Daniel Martin (Cohasset, MA / Cohasset) is the top rebounder (6.8 per game) and shot blocker (28). Martin is second in the league, averaging 3.1 blocks per game.
Rensselaer was 7-9 in league play a season ago. The Engineers were picked to finish sixth by the coaches this season.
Following Friday's action, both the men's and women's teams host Clarkson University on Saturday at East Campus Arena. The women begin play at 2pm with the men's game following. Live statistics for all Rensselaer basketball games are available at
