TROY, N.Y. – Senior captain
Brendan Farley scored 28 points, including 19 in the second half, to lead the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's basketball team to an, 88-83, victory over Clarkson University, this afternoon at East Campus Arena. With the win, the Engineers improve to 6-5 overall (1-1 Liberty League), while Golden Knights drop to 8-3 (0-2 Liberty League).

An evenly played first half saw the Engineers shoot 42.5% (17 for 40) from the field en route to a 43-39 lead. Clarkson was paced by graduate student Jerry Coleman (Potsdam, NY/Potsdam) in the first half, as he netted a team-best 12 points on 6 of 8 shooting for the floor.
A three from Farley to open the second half got the hosts off on the right foot. RPI then held onto a two-possession lead through the early stages of the half. Coleman drilled a three before his brother John Coleman (Potsdam, NY/Potsdam) made a lay-up to make it a three-point game with 13:43 on the clock.
Back-to-back baskets by Farley, including a long-range three, pushed the Engineers' lead to double-digits (69-59) with 10:13 left. Clarkson cut the lead in half by the eight minute mark, but a lay-up and a free-throw by senior captain
Daniel Martin (Cohasset, MA/Cohasset) made it a 10-point game again.
John Coleman cut the deficit to four (80-76) with 3:51 remaining, but Farley answered with a lay-up inside and an free-throw to make it a seven-point game. Jerry Coleman hit a three to pull the visitors to within 87-83, but that was as close as the Golden Knights would get as RPI senior
Erik Hatton (Atkinson, NH/Timberlane Regional) hit 1 of 2 from the line to conclude the scoring.
Freshman
Tyler Gendron (Merrimack, NH/Merrimack) added 15 points for the Engineers, to go along with four rebounds. Clarkson was paced by Jerry Coleman, who had 24 points and five rebounds. John Coleman had 22 points and eight boards.
