ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute men's soccer team won its third straight Liberty League contest, defeating Bard College, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon.
The Engineers (8-4 overall, 4-1 Liberty League) dominated throughout, outshooting Bard 26-3 and building a 16-0 edge in corner kicks.
Junior
Tyler Kessler (Delmar, NY) opened the scoring in the 25th minute, when he struck a low shot from 25 yards that eluded Bard keeper Daniel Gagne (East Longmeadow, MA) at the far post.
Esmir Hadzic (Burlington, VT) made it 2-0 about five minutes later when he headed in a corner kick from
Joey Eilert (Wayne, NJ) at the near post. Gagne got a hand on it but it ended up in the roof of the goal.
Shots in the first half were 17-1 in favor of RPI.
Junior
Matt Koziol (Poughkeepsie, NY) had the only goal of the second half with a beautiful direct kick from 22 yards that got over the Bard wall and in the upper corner inside the near post.
Rob Dewald (Arlington, VA) played 80 minutes and didn't face a shot on goal;
Dylan Hasson (Cheshire, CT) played the final 10 minutes and made one save.
Gagne made 11 saves for Bard (2-12, 0-5 Liberty League.)
