Engineers drop non-league game to the Knights

NEW YORK, N.Y. - Three players reached double-figures, but the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's basketball team fell to Berkeley College, 122-95, this afternoon in non-league action. With the win, the Knights improve to 2-1, while the Engineers drop to 0-2.

Sophomore Chase Almond (South Kingstown, RI/South Kingstown) led the way for RPI, scoring 15 points on 4 of 6 shooting. He also recorded three rebounds, an assist and a blocked shot. Classmate Tyler Gendron (Merrimack, NH/Merrimack) dropped in 14, going 5 of 10 from the field, including 4 of 7 from beyond the three-point line. Senior Reggie Colas (Miami, FL/Belen Jesuit) chipped in with 10 points, a rebound and two steals.

The two teams combined to score 119 points in an explosive first half, as the home side took a 65-54. Elijah Craig netted 15 points to the lead the way for the Knights, who shot 57.1% in the frame.

Berkeley continued to shoot week from the floor in the second half, hitting on 24 of 41 shot attempts (58.5%). The Knights also held a significant advantage in points in the point, outscoring RPI, 78-30 in that department. They also held a 25-12 edge in second chance points. 

The Engineers return to action on Tuesday, when they visit Sage College (8pm).
