Ashley Clough notched a double-double of 19 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's basketball team to an 80-31 victory over Lesley University, this afternoon in the consolation game of the Cheryl Warren-Powers '95 Memorial Tournament. With the win, the Engineers improve to 1-1 on the young season, while the Lynx drop to 0-2.
Clough (West Chesterfield, NH/Keene) scored seven of her 19 points in the first half, as the Engineers built a 50-10 lead through 20 minutes. Junior
Amanda Lynch (Middletown, NY/
John Burke Catholic) netted nine of her 15 points in the opening stanza, in which Rensselaer shot 45.5% (20 for 44) from the field.
The Engineers pushed their lead to 51 points (61-10) on a Lynch lay-up, five minutes into the second half. All 14 players found the scoresheet for RPI, including senior captain
Zysnia Osepa (Melrose, NY/Tamarac), who netted 10 points on 4 of 5 shooting. Rensselaer held the Lynx to just 25% from the field, while forcing 35 turnovers.
Clough also had two blocks and a game-high five steals in the contest. Pacing Lesley was Belen Garcia-Clark, who had nine points on 4 of 13 shooting. She also hauled in 11 rebounds. Ari Dimou added eight points and six boards.
Lynch and Lynx guard Jackie Ewing were named to the All-Tournament Team.Â
RPI returns to action on Thursday, when it hosts Utica for hits home opener at East Campus Arena (6pm).Â
