TROY, N.Y. – Junior Ryan Haggerty scored twice, but the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's hockey team played to a 3-3 tie with fifth-ranked Quinnipiac University, this evening in ECAC Hockey action from the Houston Field House. With the draw, the Engineers move to 7-5-3 overall (2-3-3 ECAC Hockey), while the Bobcats are now 12-2-3 (6-1-2 ECAC Hockey).

Rensselaer took a quick 2-0 lead thanks to a pair of goals from Haggerty (Stamford, CT/U.S. National Development Team). He scored at 3:16 of the opening frame off a feed from classmate Curtis Leonard (Napanee, ON/Wellington Dukes), burying a shot from inside the left circle.

The Engineers took a 2-0 lead three and a half minutes later, when the puck inadvertently deflected off of Haggerty's skate an in, from just outside the crease. Helpers on Haggerty's second of the game and nation-leading 17th of the season went to classmate Matt Neal Minesing, ON/Stoufville Spirit) and senior Guy Leboeuf (West Palm Beach, FL/Cornwall Colts).

Quinnipiac scored twice in the second to draw even at 2-2. Senior defenseman Zach Tolkinen (Lino Lakes, MN/Fairbanks Ice Dogs) got the visitors on the board at 2:12 of the stanza, when his shot from the right point pinged off the right post and in, past RPI junior netminder Scott Diebold (Buffalo, NY/Tri-City Storm).

Freshman Sam Anas (Potomac, MD/Youngstown Phantoms) converted on a breakaway at 17:58 of the second to knot the score at 2-2. Taking a long outlet feed from junior Dan Federico (Acton, MA/Boston Jr. Bruins), Anas deked his way around Diebold for his 13th goal of the year.

Junior Jacob Laliberte (Rockland, ON/Cornwall Colts) gave RPI a 3-2, just 1:02 into the third period, when he tipped home a shot from the left point by sophomore Christ Bradley (Williamsville, NY/Youngstown Phantoms). Earning the second assist on Laliberte's fourth goal of the season was senior Bo Dolan (St. Paul, MN/Penticton Vees).

Bobcats junior Matthew Peca (Petawawa, ON/Pembroke Lumber Kings) netted his fourth of the year at 11:37 to tie the game at 3-3. Senior Connor Jones (Montrose, BC/Vernon Vipers) and freshman Devon Toews (Abbotsford, BC/Surrey Eagles) picked up the helpers.

Diebold (6-4-3) finished with 29 saves, while Michael Garteig (Prince George, BC/Penticton Vees) ended up with 18 stops at the other end of the ice.

The Engineers are back in action tomorrow afternoon, when they host Princeton at the Houston Field House (4pm).
