WILMINGTON, N.C. – Nine different players recorded goals as the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's lacrosse team defeated Greensboro College, in non-conference action from Cape Fear Academy, this morning. With the win, the Engineers improve to 3-3, while the Pride drops to 3-5.

Rensselaer scored early and often in the opening quarter, taking a 6-0 lead after the first 15 minutes. Sophomore Casey Colligan (Balwinsville, NY/CW Baker) notched two of them, including a man-up tally with 1:59 remaining in the frame.

After RPI senior Brett Overend (Laguna Hills, CA/Laguna Hills) made it 7-0, 1:38 in the second quarter, the Pride were finally able to find the back of the net, as sophomore Blaine Wise (North Palm Beach, FL/North Palm Beach) scored an unassisted goal.

Colligan then scored his third of the game and sixth of the season to give the Engineers an 8-1 lead at halftime. Senior Wes Rudy (Doylestown, PA/The Hill School), who scored the game's first goal, picked up the assist on Colligan's tally.

Senior Justin Pearson (Morristown, NJ/Morristown) drew Greensboro to within 8-2 less than a minute into the third quarter, but that was as close as the Pride would get as Rensselaer scored the next five goals, including three straight by Overend to close out the stanza.

The two teams split four goals in the fourth quarter to bring the game to its final margin.

Rensselaer, which used four goaltenders in the contest, saw senior James Manchester (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) earn the win, making three saves, while giving up two goals. Junior captain Alex Castronovo (Garden City, NY/Garden City) played 14 minutes and made four saves, while freshman Blake Neyland (Westborough, MA/Xaverian Brother's) saw his first collegiate action, stopping the shot on goal he faced.

Pride senior goalie Mitchell Kanowicz (Leonardtown, MD/Leonardtown) made 12 saves.

The Engineers are back in action on Saturday, when they face New England College in Alexandria, Va. (2pm). Greensboro takes on Otterbein on Thursday (3:30pm).
