TROY, N.Y. – Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athlete Nick Bailen has been chosen to the All-ECAC Hockey First Team, the league has announced. He is a senior defenseman who leads the Engineers in scoring.

A native of Fredonia, N.Y., Bailen has 31 points on a team-best 12 goals and 19 assists in 35 games. Seven of his goals have come on the power play and two have been game-winners. He has nine penalties for 18 minutes.

In 22 league contests, he had 19 points, scoring nine goals with 10 assists. Five of his markers came with the man-advantage and two were game-winners.

Bailen had at least one point in 19 games, including nine contests with multiple points. He scored goals in 10 different games and had at least one assist in 13. His most prolific stretch came late in the campaign when he tallied 14 points (7 goals, 7 assists) in eight games to close out the regular season.

He was the ECAC Hockey Player of the Week twice this year.

Among the league leaders, he is second in defensemen scoring and overall power play goals. He is also 12th in both points and assists. Nationally, Bailen is second in defensemen scoring and 11th in power play goals.

In 149 career games, Bailen has 33 goals and 72 assists for 105 points. He is just the fourth Engineers blueliner to eclipse the 100-point plateau. His single season career-high was 36 points (8 goals, 28 assists) in 2010-11 when he earned All-ECAC Hockey First Team honors and National All-America recognition.

The Engineers finished 12-7-3 in the league, good enough for second place. Rensselaer, which is ranked 19th in the nation, is 18-14-5 overall and hopeful of receiving an at-large berth into the NCAA Tournament. The 16-school field will be announced on Sunday night.
