Men's Lacrosse Beaten by No. 5 RIT, 13-5

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – On a sun-drench Tigers Stadium, the No. 5 RIT (9-2, 2-0 Liberty League) men's lacrosse team improved to 9-2 overall and 2-0 in the Liberty League with a 13-5 win over Rensselaer (5-6, 1-3 Liberty League) on Saturday afternoon.

Jack Krzyston and Kyle Aquin led RIT with four goals apiece. Taylor Wisman scored two goals and had three assists, while Allister Warren scored three goals and dished out an assist. Krzyston.

RIT's defense was stout, holding the Engineers to five goals, including one in the first half. Pat Johnston picked up his ninth win of the season in net, making 19 saves.

Brett Overend, Billy Gibbs, Wes Rudy, David Hey and Mike Sarson scored the Rensselaer goals. Alex Castronovo took the loss, allowing 10 goals and making 14 saves.

Rensselaer held a 45-35 shot advantage, while RIT won the ground ball battle, 38-28. RIT won 13-of-21 face-offs, led by Tyler Brooks-Lambert, who went 8-for-11 with five ground balls. The Tigers went 3-for-3 on man-up opportunities, improving their season conversion percentage to 49.0%. Aquin scored three of his four goals on man-up.

RIT led 3-0 after the first quarter when Aquin sandwiched a goal in between two Wisman goals. Krzyston and Warren opened the second-quarter with consecutive goals, giving RIT a 5-0 lead with 8:01 to play in the first half.

Overend broke the Tigers scoring run with his 25th goal of the season with 3:50 to play in the second quarter. 

Warren opened the third quarter with consecutive goals, improving the Tigers lead to 7-1 at the 6:54 on his 21st tally of the season. Sarson scored for Rensselaer to cut the RIT lead to 7-2 with his second goal of the season with 6:15 to play in the third quarter. Krzyston made it 8-3 RIT, with his 24th goal of the season off a feed from Wisman, his second helper of the game. Hey scored with 18 seconds to play in the third quarter, which started a three-goal run by the Engineers.

Gibbs and Rudy tallied consecutive goals to open the fourth quarter, cutting RIT's lead to 8-5, but RIT responded with three straight man-up goals by Aquin to close out the game and handing the Engineers their third straight loss.

RPI is idle until next Saturday when it hosts Union at East Campus Stadium in its final home game of the regular season. RIT returns to action on Wednesday when the Tigers face No. 14 Ithaca at 4pm in Ithaca.
