TROY, N.Y. – Senior Kelly Legg notched a double-double to lead the St. Lawrence University women's basketball team to a 61-51 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), this afternoon in Liberty League play from East Campus Arena. With the win, the Saints improve to 5-5 overall (2-0 Liberty), while the Engineers drop to 2-9 (0-2 Liberty).
Legg (Fairport, NY/Aquinas Institute) netted 10 of her game-high 16 points in the second half, while also collecting 15 rebounds, six blocked shots and a steal. Classmate Cassie St. Hilaire (Adams Center, NY/South Jefferson) scored 10 points and grabbed six boards, while junior Kara McDuffee (Owego, NY/Tioga High School) came away with nine points and a game-high 17 rebounds.

John Burke Catholic) each netted nine points for the hosts, who were held to 28.3% (17 for 60) shooting on the day. Senior

The Saints got off to a strong start in the first half, building leads of as many as 10 points on a two occasions. Rensselaer began cutting into the deficit with five minutes to go in the stanza, on lay-ups freshman
Jackie Sortor (Colchester, VT/Colchester) and a sophomore
Ellen Boucher (Williston, VT/Rice Memorial).
Lynch trimmed the St. Lawrence advantage to four points (29-25) with 46 seconds to go in the opening half, but a basket and a free throw from St. Hilaire pushed the advantage back to 32-25 at the break.
Rensselaer opened the second half with two quick buckets from Lynch and Clough, to make it a three-point game, but the Saint stormed back with a 12-0 run that spanned nearly eight minutes, putting a hold on the Engineers' comeback efforts.
St. Lawrence, which led by as many as 17 points in the second half, saw RPI battle back to within 10 by the final horn, thanks to free throws from Osepa, Lynch and Clough within the final two minutes.
The Engineers are back on the court on Tuesday night, when they visit Bard College (6pm). St. Lawrence travels to Clarkson on Tuesday (6pm).
