ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT (7-7, 3-2 Liberty League) women's basketball team scored 49 second-half points en route to an 83-58 win over Rensselaer (4-11, 2-4 Liberty League) in Liberty League action from Clark Gym on Friday night.

Ashlynn Palmitesso and Courtney Tennant led RIT with 24 points apiece. Kayla Wheeler added 11 points and Mallory Apperson scored seven off the bench for RIT who shot 45.6 percent from the floor on 31-of-68 shooting. The Tigers were 6-of-16 from behind the arc, and went 15-of-20 from the foul line.

Courtney Reynolds and Ashley Clough led Rensselaer with 15 points apiece. Clough also had 10 rebounds. Amanda Lynch scored nine points for the Engineers.

Trailing 31-29 late in the first half, RIT rattled off a 6-0 mini run taking a 34-31 lead at the break. Palmitesso led RIT with 12 points on 5-of-10 shooting. Tennant added nine points and had eight rebounds.

The second half saw the Tigers go on a 14-1 run, taking a 16-point lead on a layup by Jess Kramer with 15:23 to play, giving RIT their largest lead of the game at 50-34. The Tigers led by as many as 28 points in the second half.

Rensselaer shot 26.8 percent from the field on 19-of-71 shooting from the floor. The Engineers were 2-od-23 from behind the arc and were 18-of-29 from the charity stripe.

RPI will face William Smith tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m., while RIT returns to action Saturday, January 25 when the Tigers host Skidmore College at 2 p.m. on the floor of Clark Gym.
