Women's Basketball Beaten by No. 12 Ephs

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - Junior Kellie Macdonald scored 13 points and Oge Unawaka posted a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds as the Williams College women's basketall team defeated Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) 66-44 at the Chandler Gymnasium on Saturday night.

Ashley Clough led RPI, which slipped to 2-6, with 13 points. She also had six rebounds, which trailed only Amanda Lynch, who had eight rebounds. MaryKate O'Brien added 12 points for Williams and Ellen Cook 11 as the Ephs improved to 11-0 on the season. 

Williams will play St. Lawrence at 3 p.m. Sunday while RPI will match up with Bates at 1 p.m.

Williams ran out to an early 16-point lead at 25-9 behind Macdonald, who scored all 13 of her points in the first half. But RPI went on a 14-0 run to shave that deficit to just two at 25-23. Macdonald finally answered for the Ephs when she drained a three-pointer off the right elbow to make it 28-23.

The Ephs led 34-27 at the half but pulled away quickly in the second half with a 13-3 run that left them up by 17. O'Brien had five of her points in the first 3:30 of the second half, including a three-pointer that put the Ephs up by double figures at the 16:27 mark. First-year Lauren McCall capped the opening run with five straight points, including a three-pointer from the top of the key that made it 47-30 with 14:08 to go.

Williams held RPI to 27.6 shooting from the floor while outrebounding the Engineers, 46-35, on the night. Unawkaka added three blocks and three steals to her night while Cook led the Ephs with four assists.
