Box Score DENVER, Colo. – Junior goaltender Jason Kasdorf made 39 saves, but the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's hockey team was shut out by 16th-ranked Denver University, this evening at Magness Arena. With the win, the Pioneers open the season at 1-0, while the Engineers drop to 1-2.

Kasdorf (Winnipeg, MB/Des Moines Bucs) stopped all 20 shots he faced in the first period, and 11 in the second, including five during a five-minute Denver power-play.

The Pioneers broke through at 12:41 of the second stanza, when junior Quentin Shore (Denver, CO) ripped a shot off the post and in, after the Engineers turned the puck over in their own zone. The eventual game-winning goal was assisted by senior Zac Larraza (Scottsdale, AZ) and freshman Danton Heinen (Langley, BC).

Denver made it 2-0 at 15:41 of the frame, when Larraza redirected a shot by junior Nolan Zajac (Winnipeg, MB) past Kasdorf for a power-play goal.

The hosts capped the scoring at 19:09, on an empty net goal from senior Ty Loney (Pittsburgh, PA).
