Liberty League StandingsTROY, N.Y. - In a game to determine first place in the Liberty League standings, the William Smith College women's soccer team scored just 2:47 into the contest and built a 3-0 lead before going on to defeat Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, 3-1, at East Campus Stadium. The Herons, the eighth-ranked team in the nation and defending national champions, improve to 11-2-0 overall and 6-0-0 in the league, while the Engineers fall to 9-5-1 and 4-2-0.
Senior Krista Longo (Morristown, NJ / Villa Walsh Academy) put the visitors in front when she finished a cross at the top of the 6-yard box in the third minute. The goal, which was assisted by Kara Shue (Fairport, NY / Fairport), was the sixth of the season for Longo, a forward. William Smith doubled its lead in the 30th minute when sophomore MacKenzie Smith (North Las Vegas, NV / NW Career and Technical Academy) scored off a rebound of a Brenna Kincaid (Fayetteville, NY / Fayetteville-Manlius) shot. Smith collected a ball that was bouncing free inside the box and scored her first of the year.
William Smith sophomore defender Emma Diehl (Rochester, NY / Brighton) made it a 3-0 score when she scored on a penalty kick following a teammate being taken down in the box in the 55th minute. Senior
Taylor Korytko (Chandler, AZ / Hamilton) pulled Rensselaer to within two goals when she converted a free kick from just outside the box in the 66th minute, but the Engineers could get no closer despite an aggressive effort throughout the second half. Korytko's goal was her third in the last two games and seventh on the season.
Freshman goalkeeper Nicole McGlinchy (Twinsburg, OH / Twinsburg) improved to 10-1-0 with the win. She stopped two shots. Freshman

Alex Scholz (Kapolei, HI / Punahou) the second. Scholz finished with one save.
RPI returns to action on Tuesday in a non-league game at Hartwick College (7pm), while William Smith, which has now won 10 consecutive games, travels to Clarkson University for a league match next Saturday at 3pm.
