TROY, N.Y. – Greg Carey recorded three assists to lead St. Lawrence to a 4-0 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in ECAC men's hockey action on Friday evening at Houston Field House.  With the loss, the Engineers fall to 13-13-5 overall, with a 7-8-4 mark in ECAC play, while the Saints improve to 12-15-4 and 6-9-4 in league action.

The Engineers wore specially designed camouflage uniforms to celebrate Military Appreciation Night. After the game, the jerseys were raffled off, with proceeds going to Defending the Blue Line, a non-profit which works to ensure that children of military members are afforded opportunities to participate in the game of hockey, and the Wounded Warrior Program, a veterans service organization that offers a variety of programs, service, and events for wounded veterans of the military.

The teams skated to a scoreless first period, as RPI led the Saints in shots, 7-5. The Engineers had a flurry of shots directly in front of St. Lawrence goaltender Matt Weninger (Lethbridge, AB / Flin Flon), including four on-target shots by Ryan Haggerty (Stamford, CT / US National Dev. Team), but Weninger stopped each one.

At 7:43 of the second, Engineer netminder Scott Diebold (Buffalo, NY / Tri-City Storm) made a save on an initial shot by Greg Carey (Hamilton, ON / Burlington), but the puck rebounded off his pads and was immediately collected by St. Lawrence's Chris Martin (Ottawa, ON / Indiana), who found the back of the net to put the Saints up, 1-0. Rensselear almost immediately went on the power play and took several shots at the Saints' net, but came up empty.

Riley Austin (Bobcaygeon, ON / Lindsay) put St. Lawrence up, 2-0, with 1:27 left to play in the second period, as he sent a hard wrist shot into the bottom right corner, just past Diebold's skate. Just over two minutes later, Greg Carey had a breakaway shot that Diebold kick-saved, but Matt Carey was there to pick up the rebound, putting the Saints ahead, 3-0, with 17:30 left to play.

The Saints pushed their advantage to 4-0, as Patrick Doherty (Hamilton, NY / New Hampshire) came up with a shorthanded breakaway goal with 8:58 left to play in the final period. Gavin Bayreuther (Canaan, NH / Fargo) assisted on the tally. Despite another power play opportunity for the Engineers before the end of the period, St. Lawrence came away with the shutout victory. It is just the third blanking of RPI this season.

St. Lawrence outshot the Engineers, 28-22, and held a 33-27 advantage in faceoff wins. Diebold finished with 24 saves for RPI in a full 60 minutes of action, while Weninger stopped all 22 of the Engineers' shots on target for St. Lawrence.

The Engineers will return to action on Saturday, hosting Clarkson in further ECAC action at 7 p.m.
