MSU finished the first quarter Schreck's second goal of the game with just 33 seconds on the clock.

The Hawks kicked off the second quarter in similar fashion, getting a tally from Connor Cunningham, with an assist from Schreck, a minute into play. RPI responded with back-to-back goals from freshmen Breanainn McNeally (Severna Park, MD / Archbishop Spaulding) and Liam Mennig (Summit, NJ / Summit), but Schreck completed his hat trick with 2:14 to play in the first half.

McNeally tied the game at 4-4 with 13:28 to kick things off in the 3rd quarter, taking an assist from Ben Piersak (Needham, MA / St. Sebastians). Pat Hogan (Mt. Sinai, NY / Mt. Sinai) added an unassisted tally with just under seven minutes to play in the quarter, before McNeally scored back-to-back goals to push the RPI lead to 7-4. With 3:17 left in the period, Patrick Finn (North Easton, MA / Thayer Academy) took an assist from McNeally to put the Engineers up by four. Sam Morrissey cut the MSU disadvantage back to three with a goal off an assist from Marc Scoran with 2:23 left to play.

The Hawks continued to come back to start the fourth, as Rich Connor scored his first goal of the season with 13:50 on the clock. Schreck scored his fourth of the day, while Morrissey netted his second with 8:37 to play in the game to knot the game up at 8-8. Morrissey struck again with the fifth straight MSU goal with 3:15 on the clock. The Engineers got a final shot from Casey Colligan (Baldwinsville, NY / CW Baker), but the Hawks held on for the victory.
