SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- Cailin Schmeer scored a game-high 20 points to lead Union to an 80-67 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in the Engineers' season finale on Saturday afternoon at Viniar Athletic Center. RPI wraps up the 2013-14 season a 7-18 overall with a 5-11 mark in Liberty League play. Union improves to 16-9 on the season, with an 8-8 mark in conference action.Â
Renssealer led early in the game, getting ahead by 14-6 on an
Amanda Lynch jumper with 15:15 left to play, before Union started its comeback. After almost three scoreless minutes, Schmeer converted a layup to pull the Dutchwomen to within 16-15, and Amy Loya hit a bucket to put Union on top with 10:14 left to play. The Dutchwomen continued to roll from that point, build ing up a 44-28 advantage at the half.Â
Union shot 50.0 percent (32-of-65) from the floor, holding the Engineers to 39.3 percent (22-of-56) shooting for the game.Â
Amanda Lynch led Rensselaer with 18 points and seven rebounds to go along with three assists and two steals.
Ashley Clough added 13 points for the Engineers, while
Courtney Reynolds chipped in with nine points.Â
Schmeer paced three Dutchwomen in double figures scoring. Kelsey McDonald had a double-double with 16 points and 11 assists, while Loya scored 14 for Union.
