Breanainn McNeally scored four goals and added an assist to lead Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) to a 22-4 win over Mount Saint Mary in non-conference men's lacrosse action on Wednesday afternoon at East Campus Stadium. With the win, the Engineers improve to 4-2 on the season, while Mount Saint Mary falls to 1-4.
RPI came out firing, scoring 13 goals before Mount Saint Mary could get on the board. McNeally (Severna Park, MD / Archbishop Spaulding) scored the first goal less than a minute into play, and added another tally in the Engineers eight-goal first period. Late in the first,
Scott Crow (Darnestown, MD / Bullis School) took assists from
Patrick Finn (North Easton, MA / Thayer Academy) on back-to-back goals to give Rensselaer an 8-0 advantage after one.
Finn got in on the goal scoring to start the second, finding the back of the net off an assist from
Aaron Shavel (Lawrenceville, NJ / Princeton Day School) 57 seconds into play. After a goal by
Matt Hall (Sudbury, MA / Lincoln-Sudbury) at 12:44, McNeally tallied consecutive goals, with both assists going to
Liam Mennig (Summit, NJ / Summit). Henry Schof (Montgomery, NY /Pine Bush) got Mount Saint Mary on the board with a man-up goal at 8:46, taking an assist from David Hobbs (Baldwin, NY / Kellenberg Memorial). The Engineers responded by scoring five more goals to finish out the first half, including back-to-back markers by
Maxen Haveles (Centreville, VA / Gonzaga College) in the final three minutes.
It was the Knights who scored first to start the second half, as Hobbs put an unassisted shot past
Anthony De Los Reyes (Dix Hills, NY / St. Anthony's) with 9:10 to play in the third. RPI scored twice to finish out the period, getting goals from
Matt Krecicki (Winter Park, FL / Winter Park)Â and
Casey Colligan (Baldwinsville, NY / C.W. Baker).
Crow finished up his hat trick to start the fourth period, taking an assist from
Harry Walsh (Walpole, MA / Xaverian) at 11:50. Mount Saint Mary recorded back-to-back goals midway through the stanza, but
Mark Surgent (Clifton, NJ / Clifton) netted his first collegiate goal iwth just over a minute to play to set the final score.
RPI outshot the Knights, 65-9, and held a 47-20 advantage in ground balls. The Engineers went 23-for-30 in the faceoff circle, with
Ben Piersak (Needham, MA / St. Sebastian) winning a team-best 12. Rensselaer used four goalkeepers in the game, with none making any saves, while Mount Saint Mary's Conner Haran made 16 saves for the Knights.
Rensselaer will return to action on Saturday, hosting Vassar in the Liberty League opener at 1 p.m.
