Live VideoTroy, N.Y. -- Third-seeded Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) will travel up Route 7 to Schenectady to take on No. 2 seed Union (12-2) in the Liberty League Tournament Semifinals this Friday, May 2, at 4:00 p.m. at Frank Bailey Field. No. 1 seed RIT will host No. 4 seed St. Lawrence on Friday in the other semfinal matchup. The championship game will be played on Sunday, at noon, at the highest remaining seed.
RPI (11-4) is led offensively by freshman
Breanainn McNeally (Severna Park, MD / Archbishop Spaulding), who has set a new single-season freshman record with 44 goals. He has also added 17 assists for 61 total points, which puts him among the Engineers' all-time single-season leaders. McNeally has earned back-to-back Liberty League Rookie of the Week Honors to end the regular season, and was also named the league's Offensive Player of the Week earlier in 2014. Sophomore
Patrick Finn (North Easton, MA / Thayer Academy) is handing out a league-leading 2.00 assists per game - 30 in total - and is second on the squad with 44 points.
Defensively, the Engineers are anchored by senior goalkeeper
Alex Castronovo (Garden City, NY / Garden City), who was named the Liberty League Defensive Player of the Week twice this season. Castronovo ranks third in the conference in both goals against average (7.39) and save percentage (.608), and also scored his first career goal in a 9-8 win over Clarkson in March. Sophomore
John Phillips (Oswego, NY / Oswego) has established himself as one of RPI's top defenders, as he leads the Engineers with 76 groundballs and 24 caused turnovers.
T.J. Tynan (Bedford, NY / Fox Lane) took over face off duties for the Engineers and has posted a .630 (126-200) winning percentage in the face off circle in 2014.
Rensselaer fell to ninth-ranked Union, 12-11, in double overtime on April 12. The Engineers continue to receive votes in the USILA National Poll.
