#RPIWS Falls To Hartwick Late

Engineers tie game in second half, but Hawks answer for 2-1 win

TROY, N.Y. – Junior Allyson Daniels scored the eventual game-winning goal late in the second half to give the Hartwick College women's soccer team a 2-1 win at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in non-league play at East Campus Stadium. With the win, the Hawks improve to 9-3-2, while the Engineers drop to 5-6-6.

The visitors struck first in the 10th minute, off a set piece from the left flank. Freshman Kiley Richardson (Flanders, NJ/Roxbury) sent a ball in towards the top of the six-yard area that senior Kristen McKasty (Bohemia, NY/Connetquot) ran onto and headed into the left side-netting. RPI sophomore goalie Tori Riopelle (Ashburn, VA/Briar Woods) got her finger tips on the ball, but not enough to keep it out.

Rensselaer had a chance to pull even in the 45th minute, when freshman Emily Dunn (Seattle, WA/Ballard) played sophomore Stephanie May (Windham, NH/Central Catholic) in behind the Hartwick defense. From the right side of the penalty area, May took a right-footed shot that was held by Hawks junior goalkeeper Megan McGillycuddy (Glenville, NY/Scotia-Glenville).

Hartwick held a 4-2 shots advantage at the half, including 3-1 on goal.

The Engineers drew even in the 74th minute on junior Catie Mann's (Downington, PA/Downington) second goal of the season. May slotted a perfectly weighted pass through the Hartwick back line and Mann took a touch before rifling it inside the right post.

Both teams generated chances as the clock ticked down towards the end of the regulation, but in the 86th minute, the Hawks converted off a cross from the right side of the field. Senior Abby Wheeler (Chatham, NY/Chatham) delivered a ball into the area that was headed home by Daniels (Pembroke, NH/Pembroke Academy). The goal, which stood as the game-winner, was her fourth of the year.

Riopelle and McGillycuddy each had three saves. The Hawks earned five corner kicks to RPI's three.
