#RPIWS Tops Skidmore, 2-1

Emily Dunn's first collegiate goal gives Engineers win in season finale

TROY, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's soccer team concluded its 2015 season with a 2-1 victory over Skidmore College, on Tuesday night at East Campus Stadium. With the win, the Engineers finish with a 6-7-6 overall record including a 2-3-3 mark in Liberty League play. The Thoroughbreds drop to 5-9-1 and 2-3-3.

Junior Catie Mann (Downington, PA/Downington) sent a ball over her shoulder and into the run of classmate Cori Winslow (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa), who buried a shot from inside the six-yard area. The tally was Winslow's third of the year.

The Engineers continued to pressure the Skidmore end of the field, but took a one-goal lead into halftime. RPI had a 6-4 edge in shots after 45 minutes.

RPI doubled its lead in the 52nd minute, when freshman Emily Dunn (Seattle, WA/Ballard) tapped home a rebound from just outside the goal mouth. A corner by senior Kate Edwards (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South) was headed on frame by sophomore Dali Alarian (Folsom, CA/Vista del Lago), but Skidmore goalkeeper Dee Walsh (Far Hills, NJ/Oak Knoll) made a diving save. Dunn was there the finish it off for her first collegiate tally.

The Thoroughbreds drew to within 2-1 in the 66th minute on shot by freshman Emily Mendes (Brookly, NY/The Beacon School). Sophomore Jemimah Cochrane (Shokan, NY/Onteora) picked up the assist.

Following the goal, the Engineers held Skidmore to three shots from distance, including two on target. RPI finished with a 16-11 advantage in shots, including 10-4 on goal. Walsh finished with eight saves, while RPI sophomore keeper Tori Winslow (Ashburn, VA/Briar Woods) had three.
