#RPIMS Unbeaten Streak Snapped

Box Score | Reunion & Homecoming Weekend

TROY, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institue (RPI) men's soccer team saw its school record unbeaten streak snapped at 10 games (8-0-2) with a 1-0 overtime loss to Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). Seventh-ranked RPI falls to 8-1-2 overall and 1-1-1 in the Liberty League, while the Tigers improve to 4-6-0 and 1-2-0.

RIT got the game's only goal on a penalty kick by freshman Gene Sicoli (Commack, NY / Commack) in the 96th minute. The visitors were awarded the PK when senior Luke Dorsey (Cazenovia, NY / Cazenovia) collected a pass, turned and flicked the ball past a defender, who tripped Dorsey in the box. Sicoli took the shot and scored his seventh goal of the season when he sent a low ball into the bottom right corner of the net while goaltender Ryan Nealon (Somers, NY / Somers) dove in the opposite direction.

The Engineers, who won their first eight games of the season, played the final 18 minutes of regulation and overtime down a player due to a red card. The game was physical throughout with a total of six yellow cards distributed. RPI still managed to generate some offense, but RIT's Peter Cinibulk (Bellbrook, OH / Bellbrook) stopped the three shots he faced in the contest. Nealon (Somers, NY / Somers), who stopped penalty kicks in two previous games, made seven saves in suffering the loss.

The Tigers held an 18-12 edge in shots, while the Engineers had a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Rensselaer returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts Union College in a league game at 7:30pm. RIT travels to SUNY Geneseo for a non-league game on Wednesday night at 7pm.
