RPI Athletics on InstagramROCHESTER, N.Y. - St. John Fisher College used a 12-0 run early in the second hald to turn a two-point advantage into a 14-point bulge and the Cardinals defeated the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's basketball team 67-54 in the championship game of the Woodcliff Hotel & Spa Invitational. Fisher, the host, improves to 6-3, while the Engineers fall to 6-3.

Tom Horvat scored a layup with 1:55 into the second half to pull Rensselaer to within two points, 41-39, but the Cardinals answered with a Tyler Hart three-pointer that started a 12-point streak to the 14:20 mark. Engineers senior
Chase Almond made it 53-41 with a layup of his own, but the 12-point margin was as close as RPI would get the remainder of the contest.

Tyler Gendron led the Engineers with 14 points, including 12 in the first half. Almond had six points and a team-best seven rebounds, while Horvat finished with 11 points. Tyler Hart led St. John Fisher with 23 points, including five three-point field goals, while three others had double figures in scoring. Among them was Keegan Ryan, who finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Rensselaer returns to the court with a pair of home Liberty League games this weekend, hosting Hobart College on Saturday and Clarkson University on Sunday. Both games begin at 4pm at East Campus Arena.
