RPI Athletics on InstagramTROY, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's basketball team came off a 23-day break with a balanced effort in defeating Drew University 60-41 in the Engineers' final non-league game of the regular season. RPI had 10 student-athletes record at least one point and 11 with at least one rebound to improve to 4-5. The Rangers shot just 25.9%, including 0 for 13 from three-point range, in falling to 5-6.
Rensselaer was led by three players with 10 points apiece. Senior 
Ashley Clough (West Chesterfield, NH / Keene) also had five rebounds and two blocks, while freshmen 
Elizabeth Eckhardt (Albany, NY / Guilderland) and 
Sam Krumbhaar (Glen Burnie, MD / North County) added a pair of rebounds and two steals and three rebounds and two assists, respectively. 
LaKissa Martin (Las Vegas, NV / Rancho), another freshman, contributed eight points and eight rebounds.
Drew was paced by junior forward Ryan Jackson (Freehold, NJ / Freehold Twp.), who had 10 points with eight rebounds. Senior Courtney Stephens (Pikesville, MD / Gerstell Academy) had nine points and eight rebounds for the Rangers, who made just 15 of 58 shots.
FAST START: Drew jumped out to a 6-1 lead before RPI scored the next nine points for a 10-6 edge with 3:12 left in the first quarter. The Engineers held a 16-10 advantage after the first.
TIED GAME: The Rangers tied the game at 16-16 on a pair of free throws from Hannah Miller (Rumson, NJ / Rumson-Fair Haven) with 8:24 to go in the second quarter, but Rensselaer went on a 12-0 run for a 28-16 lead with 4:40 remaining in the first half ... RPI answered a pair of Drew free throws by scoring the next five points for a 15-point lead with 1:09 to go in the second quarter.
AT THE HALF: Rensselaer led 33-20 at halftime behind 10 points from Eckhardt and six points, five rebounds and two blocked shots from sophomore 
Shaina Iton (Peekskill, NY / Peekskill) ... The Engineers made 13 of 34 (38.2%) shots in the first 20 minutes, while the Rangers were just 7 of 29 (24.1%).
BENCH CONTRIBUTIONS: The Engineers held a 32-12 edge in points off the bench, led by Krumbhaar and Eckhardt ... Sophomore Ally Raulf (Stewartsville, NJ / Phillipsburg) had seven points to lead Drew's non-starters.
TOUGH D: Both teams had 19 turnovers in the contest ... RPI held a 10-0 advantage in blocked shots with sophomore 
Julianna O'Neill (Hawthorne, NJ / Hawthorne) recording four.
