Ashley Clough scored 19 points - and now has 1,001 career points - to lead the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's basketball team to a 72-45 victory over Anna Maria College in a non-league game as part of the Courtyard by Marriott Tournament hosted by Wesleyan College. The Engineers improve to 3-4, while the Cats fall to 5-3.
Clough (West Chesterfield, NH / Keene), a forward, made 7 of 13 shots, including 5 of 9 from three-point range, to lead all scorers. She now has 82 points this season after scoring 367 last year, 380 as a sophomore and 172 as a freshman. The captain also had six rebounds in 23 minutes on Saturday in a game that saw two freshmen reach double digits in points.
LaKissa Martin (Las Vegas, NV / Rancho) scored 14 points with four rebounds, an assist and a steal in 17 minutes, while classmate 
Elizabeth Eckhardt (Albany, NY / Guilderland) collected 14 points, four rebounds, an assist, a block and two steals in 23 minutes. Sophomore 
Shaina Iton (Peekskill, NY / Peekskill) added a game-high 12 rebounds, along with six points, a block and a steal.
Anna Maria was led by Christina Gauvin, who had 11 points.
The Engineers held a 22-8 lead after the first quarter and a 44-19 bulge at halftime. RPI, which never trailed in the contest, held the Cats to just 20% shooting (6 of 30) in the first half, while making 43.2% (19 of 44) of its shots in the opening 20 minutes. 
Rensselaer plays the host Cardinals on Sunday at 1pm.
