Women's Hoops Set For Clash With Clarkson

ALUMNAE WEEKEND!: The Engineers celebrate Alumnae Weekend on Saturday, with many alums returning to Troy ... The Alumnae Game will be played at 10am at East Campus Arena.

DOWN THE STRETCH: RPI hosts Clarkson in their second-to-last home game of the season, today at East Campus Arena (2pm).

ENGINEERS TOP SKIDMORE IN OT: Ashley Clough and Amanda Lynch combined for 45 points to lead Rensselaer to a 75-71 overtime win over Skidmore, last night in Saratoga Springs ... The loss snaps a seven-game home win streak for the second place Thoroughbreds ... Angela Botiba and Kelly Donnelly had double-doubles for Skidmore. Botiba scored 10 points and had a game-high 14 rebounds ... Donnelly contributed 13 points and 10 boards ... Ella Scheuerell added 10 points and Amber Holgate scored 11. Molly McLaughlin had a game-high nine assists ... Clough scored 23 points and had three assists for RPI, while Lynch totaled 22 points ... Holgate gave Skidmore a 66-61 lead with 1:01 to play in regulation ... The Engineers cut it to three on a Lynch jumper with 50 seconds left ... RPI got the ball back off a turnover and Clough hit a three from the top of the arc to force with 23 seconds on the clock to force the overtime ... McLaughlin hit a clutch three at the 3:42 mark of overtime to put the Thoroughbreds in front 69-67 ... RPI then went on an 8-0 run, capped by a pair of free throws by Bailei Tetrault, with :23 left for a 75-69 lead ... Donnelly scored with 15 seconds left to close it to 75-71, but the Engineers were able to run the clock out.

RENSSELAER LEADERS: Senior captain Amanda Lynch leads the Engineers at 15.8 points and 7.8 rebounds per game ... She is followed by junior Ashley Clough, who is averaging 15.1 points and 7.5 boards per contest ... Captain and senior Bailei Tetrault rounds out the top three scorers with 6.6 points per game ... Tetrault also has a team-high 53 assists to go along with 37 steals ... Freshman Shaina Iton chips in with 5.7 points and 8.0 rebounds per game, while blocking 63 total shots on the year.

PACING THE GOLDEN KNIGHTS: Senior Cara Manfredi leads Clarkson in scoring at 17.4 points per game ... She is followed by junior Ashley Loggins at 15.8 points per contest ... Sophomore Stephanie Grobe rounds out the top three scorers at 10.5 points per game ... Loggins is the club leader at 10.1 rebounds per contest, while also pacing the club in steals (74).

CLARKSON TRIPPED UP AT UNION: Clarkson couldn't get going on Friday night, falling at Union 72-55 ... Everything seemed okay for Clarkson in the very early going, up 4-2 just 90 secoonds into the game, but Clarkson would get just two more baskets in the next nine minutes and found itself down by double figures midway through the period ... A Madison Shea basket at 9:30 ended an 11-0 run by the Dutchwomen ... Clarkson trailed by as many as 24 in the first half before finally settling for a 22-point deficit at the break ... Clarkson shot just 7-for-26 in the first half and committed 10 turnovers ... A Devin Sorell 3-pointer at the 16:31 mark of the second period got Clarkson back to within 18 points (44-26) ... Union pushed its advantage back out to a game-high 25 points (57-32) at the 10:19 mark ... Clarkson finally found a little bit of offense to cut away the deficit, pulling to within 13 (60-47) by the 4:53 mark, but the Dutchwomen had enough of a bulge that it was able to hold off the Knights for the rest of the game ... Cara Manfredi finished with a team-best 16 points, but shot just 3-for-20 from the field and missed all nine of her 3-point attempts ... Alyssia Marsal did her best to score 10 points on 5-for-7 shooting, but the rest of the team made only 13 of its 54 attempts from the floor and shot only 1-for-17 from beyond the 3-point line.

JANUARY 16, 2015: Four players reached double-figures in scoring, as Rensselaer defeated Clarkson, 62-47, in the first meeting between the two schools in 2015 ... Though Ashley Loggins scored the first basket of the game on a layup right after the tip, RPI controlled the first few minutes, capping off a 9-0 run in less than two minutes on a 3-pointer from Ashley Clough ... A four-point play by Devin Sorell brought Clarkson back to within a single point midway through the half, but with just over five minutes to go in the first period, RPI went on another 9-0 run by utilizing the interior, and gained a 12-point lead, a margin that they would hold at intermission ... Loggins had a near double-double with nine points and seven boards in the first half, shooting 4-for-8 from the field ... RPI's Shaina Iton had 10 points, five rebounds, two blocks and two steals, while Clough kicked in nine points and four rebounds in the first half ... The Engineers finished with 16 steals, forcing the Knights to turn the ball over 23 times and Clarkson shot a season-low 30.8% overall (19-for-62) and just 8.3% (1-for-12) from beyond the 3-point line ... Loggins finished with 16 points, 12 rebounds and four steals, while Brooke Butkovsky produced six points and eight boards ... For RPI, Clough led the way with 16 points ... Amanda Lynch produced 13 points and Courtney Reynolds and Iton each finished with 10. Lauren Young accumulated five steals. 

THE CAPTAINS: Seniors Amanda Lynch, Courtney Reynolds and Bailei Tetrault will lead the Engineers on the court for the 2014-15 season.

BY POSITION: The Engineers roster consists of eight guards, six guards/forwards and three forwards/centers.

BY CLASS: The team is made up of seven freshmen, one sophomore, five juniors and four seniors.

RENSSELAER'S COACHES: The Engineers are led by 14th-year head coach John Greene ... He is a 1990 graduate of the University of Massachusetts ... Greene is assisted by Matt Jennifer Wehner and Mike Griffin.

UPCOMING ACTION: Rensselaer is back on the court next weekend, when they take on Vassar and Bard to close out the regular season ... The Engineers travel to Poughkeepsie on Friday (6pm), before hosting the Raptors on Sunday (2pm).
