Casey Colligan notched the game-winning goal on a man-up with only 21 seconds left as No. 18 RPI defeated Vassar College, 9-8, in the Liberty League opener for both teams. Finn and
Breanainn McNeally shared identical stat lines for the Engineers, scoring twice with one assist.
David Gibbs recorded seven saves in goal for the Engineers. Colligan earned Liberty League Weekly Honor Roll accolades on Monday after delivering the gamewinner.
LAST TIME OUT - SKIDMORE• The Skidmore College men's lacrosse team was topped by St. Lawrence, 14-6, Saturday afternoon at Wachenheim Field in the Liberty League opener for both teams. Josh Trachtenberg had two goals for Skidmore, while Kevin Mulvey and Jack Metzler each contributed a goal and an assist. Freshmen Brendan Halloran and Jack Curry rounded out the scoring for the Thoroughbreds.
THE ENGINEERS• RPI has outscored opponents, 90-60, so far this season, including a 25-12 margin in the first quarter. The Engineers have recorded 20 man-up goals, while allowing just one.
• McNeally leads all players with 20 goals to go along with five assists. He tied a career-best with five goals against Wesleyan.
Patrick Finn is second on the team with 15 goals, and leads all players with 12 assists, putting him first on the team with 27 points.
• Sophomore
David Gibbs has started every game in the net for the Engineers. He has recorded double digit save totals in 5-of-8 games so far, and is second in the league with 11.75 saves per game. He was named the USILA Defensive Player of the Week on March 17.
• RPI has allowed just one goal in 20 attempts while on the man-down. Last season, RPI had a 90% conversion rate in man-down situations, which was the best in the nation and also the highest percentage in school history. The Engineers, converted 36-of-40 opportunities.
THE THOROUGHBREDS• Skidmore is 2-5 overall and 0-1 in the Liberty League after falling to St. Lawrence in the opener last weekend. The Thoroughbreds defeated Babson, 6-5, in overtime to start the season, and beat Clark, 9-7, on March 14.
• Jack Metzler leads all players with 10 goals and three assists for 13 points. Metzler had back-to-back three-goal games against Clark and Kean. Brendan Halloran has handed out a team-best five helpers.
• Freshman Chris Baughan has started all seven games in goal for the Thoroughbreds. He has a 10.27 GAA and a .504 save percentage. The rookie made a season-high 16 stops versus Amherst.
