No. 16 Men's Hockey Primed for Fourth Mayor's Cup

Engineers look to even cup mark against rival Dutchmen

MAYOR'S CUP ROUND FOUR: The 16th-ranked Engineers will take on area-rival Union College on Saturday at the Times Union Center, in the 4th Annual Mayor's Cup game (7:30pm) ... The Dutchmen have won two of the three previous match-ups, including an 8-3 victory last year.

NO. 1 BOBCATS SURVIVE RPI: First-ranked Quinnipiac needed a goal with 9.4 seconds left in reguation to earn a 2-2 tie with 16th-ranked RPI on Thursday night in Hamden, Conn. ... After a scoreless first period, senior Zach Schroeder flipped in a rebound to give the Engineers a 1-0 lead ... Five minutes into the third, senior Mark Miller made it 2-0, when a shot from classmate Milos Bubela deflected off of Miller and into the net ... Less than a minute later, Quinnipiac answered, as senior captain Soren Jonzzen made 2-1 on a shot from the right circle ... Junior Sam Anas then netted the equalizing goal at 19:50 of the third ... Senior netminder Jason Kasdorf finished with 46 saves for RPI.

NUMBER ONE STUNNA: With their 2-2 tie at No. 1 Quinnipiac, the Engineers move to 1-0-1 against nationally first-ranked teams this season ... RPI defeated then No. 1 Boston College on October 11 at the Houston Field House.

POINTS LEADERS: Junior Riley Bourbonnais has 13 goals and seven assists for a team-high 20 points in 23 games ... Sophomore Lou Nanne (4 goals, 11 assists) has 15 points, while senior Zach Schroeder (3 goals, 11 assists) has 14 ... Junior Jake Wood (7 goals, 6 assists) and sophomore Mike Prapavessis (1 goal, 11 assists) have 13 and 12 points, respectively.

BETWEEN THE PIPES: Senior Jason Kasdorf has started 16 of the team's 25 games this season and is 6-5-4 with a 2.00 goals against average and a .938 save percentage ... Freshman Cam Hackett (6-2-2) has started nine games and carries a 2.34 goals against average and a .933 save percentage.

SPECIAL TEAMS: The Engineers come into Saturday at 11.5% (9 for 78) on the power play ...The penalty kill has climbed to 86.3% (82 for 95).

HOT PK: RPI has killed off penalties at a rate of 91.7% (22 for 24) since December 1 ... That ranks first among ECAC Hockey teams and eightth nationally.

IN THE FACE-OFF CIRCLE: The Engineers have won face-offs at a 46.3% clip through 24 games ... Junior Jimmy DeVito has won a team-high 56.1% of his draws, while classmate Riley Bourbonnais is second at 52.6% ... Senior Milos Bubela rounds out the top three at 48.5%.

FACE-OFFS RECENTLY: Since January 1, the Engineers have won 50.7% of their draws, including a team-best 70.0% from junior Jake Wood ... Classmate Riley Bourbonnais is second at 62.9%, while fellow junior Jimmy DeVito has won 56.1% of his face-offs.

KASDORF HONORED BY LEAGUE: Senior goaltender Jason Kasdorf earned his second ECAC Hockey goaltender of the Week award of the season on Tuesday, following his 1-0-1 weekend at the Houston Field House ... The week was highlighted by a 44-save shutout against eighth-ranked Cornell on Friday night ... He posted a 0.96 goals against average and a .970 save percentage in the two games, which also included 20 stops in a 2-2 tie with Colgate on Saturday.

MAYOR'S CUP LEADERS: Three RPI players have recorded points in previous Mayor's Cup games, including senior Milos Bubela, who has a goal and an assist ... Sophomore Kenny Gillespie recorded two assists in last year's event, while junior Riley Bourbonnais has one assist.

HUMAN BLOCK PARTY: Senior captain Chris Bradley blocked a season-high 10 shots against No. 1 Quinnipiac on Thursday night, giving him 65 for the season.

FREE HOCKEY: The Engineers have gone to overtime eight times season ... All eight have come in ECAC Hockey play and the team's record is 2-0-6 in those contests.

ENGINEERS VS. RANKED TEAMS: The Engineers are 4-3-3 against ranked opposition this season, including victories over then-No. 1 Boston College (2-1), then-No. 10 Yale (3-2 in OT) and then-No. 8 Cornell (1-0).

PUT ME IN COACH: The Engineers are 8-2-5 when freshman defenseman Tommy Grant is in the lineup and just 4-5-1 when he is scratched.

PLUS/MINUS DEPARTMENT: Junior blueliner Parker Reno has a team-best +13 rating, while sophomores Jared Wilson and Lou Nanne are at +10 ... Junior Jake Wood, sophomore Drew Melanson and freshman Tommy Grant are all +6.

UNION LAST TIME OUT: The Dutchmen salvaged a single point last weekend against Colgate and eighth-ranked Cornell, falling to the Raiders, 4-2, before tying the Big Red, 3-3 ... Spencer Foo and Sebastian Vidmar each had a goal and an assist in Union comeback tie against Cornell, while goaltender Joe Young came on in relief to earn the decision ... He finished with 13 saves and did not allow a goal in the final 35:18 of the contest.

FOR THE DUTCHMEN: Sophomore Spencer Foo (11 goals, 12 assists) leads the team with 23 points ... He is followed by junior Mike Vecchione (5 goals, 11 assists) with 16 points and sophomore Ryan Scarfo (11 goals, 4 assists) with 14.

IN GOAL: Junior Alex Sakellaropoulos (7-6-4) has a 2.48 goals against average and a .916 save percentage as the starter in 17 of the team's 23 games ... Freshman Jake Kupsky (2-2-1) has a 3.56 goals against average and an .884 save percentage, while classmate Joe Young (0-0-1) has a 0.00 goals against and a 1.000 save percentage ... He has seen just 13 shots.

ALL-TIME VS. UNION: The Engineers are 48-34-10 all-time against Union, including a 5-1 mark in the last six ... Prior to Rensselaer 2014 Mayor's Cup win, the Dutchmen had as run of 10 consecutive victories in the series.
