NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Yale University women's hockey built an early lead and held on for a 2-1 win over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), on Tuesday at Ingalls Rink. With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 7-13-1 (6-7-1 ECAC Hockey), while the Engineers drop to 8-12-4 (6-6-2 ECAC Hockey).
Taylor Marchin scored her first goal of the season to opening the scoring at 6:18 of the first period. Krista Yip-Chuck earned the lone assist.
Jordan Chancellor gave the Bulldogs a 2-0 cushion at 8:23 of the second. The unassisted tally was her sixth of the year. Yale took a 24-13 edge in shots into the second intermission.
RPI junior
Hannah Behounek brought the visitors to within 2-1 at 9:44 of the third period. The tally, which was her second in as many games and third of the season, was assisted on by classmate
Laura Horwood and senior
Alexa Gruschow.
Hannah Mandl (7-11-1) earned the victory between the pipes for Yale, stopping 17 of the 18 shots she faced. Freshman
Lovisa Selander (7-11-4) had 33 stops at the other end of the ice.
The Engineers are back in action this weekend, when they host 10th-ranked Colgate and Cornell on Friday (7pm) and Saturday (4pm), respectively. Yale plays a home-and-home series with Brown on Friday and Saturday.
