Men's Soccer Blanks Hobart, 2-0

Nick Revano picks up a goal and an assist as Engineers earn Liberty League win

GENEVA, N.Y. — The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute men's soccer team scored two second half goals to defeat Hobart College 2-0 in a Liberty League game played on Saturday afternoon on Cozzens Field. With the win, the Engineers improve to 3-5-2 and 1-1-0 in conference action, while the Statesmen are now 3-4-3 overall (1-1-1 Liberty League).

In the final minute of the first half, one of the Statesmen was sent off forcing them to play a man-down for the remainder and the Engineers took advantage.

In the 52nd minute, Devon Baughen scored on a header from right in front of the goal. The ball was sent into the box on a crossing pass by Nick Revano on the right side.

Revano then doubled the RPI advantage in the 63rd minute, placing his shot just out of reach of the diving goalie after collecting a short pass from Steven Collins.

The Engineers came close to making it a 3-0 game in the 73rd minute, when Matt Menendez fired a shot on goal, but sophomore goalie Alec Kaminer came up with the diving save for Hobart.

The Statesmen's best scoring chance in the second half came with 15 minutes on the clock. Junior Patrick Schulz carried the ball into the box and dished to sophomore Mitch Palmer, but Palmer's shot was blocked in the box by an RPI defender.

Kaminer finished with three saves in goal for Hobart. Ryan Nealon did not face a shot in goal for Rensselaer. The Engineers finished with a 14-5 lead in shots and a 9-2 edge in corners.

Hobart will be back in action on Tuesday, when they host Ithaca for a non-league game (4pm). Rensselaer travels to Union on Wednesday (7pm).
