CANTON, N.Y. - Freshman
Jacqui Richard scored in the 100th minute to send the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's soccer home with a 1-0 overtime win over St. Lawrence University, on Saturday at MacAllaster Field. With the win, the Engineers improve to 11-3-0 overall (3-2-0 Liberty League), while the Saints drop to 7-4-3 (2-3-1 Liberty League).
Richard received a pass from classmate
Emily Kaplan, before launching a shot from the corner of the penalty area into far left corner of the net, for her second goal of the season. The shot was RPI's fourth of the overtime session, after only registering five in the first 90 minutes.
The Saints held a 7-2 edge in shot attempts at halftime, including 4-1 on goal. Rensselaer senior
Cori Winslow's fourth minute try was the only test of Saints goalkeeper Jackie Sovie in the opening 45 minutes.
In the second half, Winslow opened with another effort that was kept out by Sovie in the 48th minute. The Saints pressured for the next 15 minutes, but couldn't muster a shot on target, thanks in part to a pair of blocks by the RPI defense.
Julia Hill forced a save out of Engineers freshman goalie
Joey Lyons in the 74th minute, before RPI sophomore
Emily Dunn saw her attempt saved in the 78th.
Senior
Kensey Waterman opened overtime with a shot on goal, before the Engineers enjoyed three consecutive corner kicks in a span of four minutes.
With under a minute to play, the Engineers worked a throw-in the edge of the box, before Richard delievered the decisive blow.
