North Country Rivals Visit Men's Hockey This Weekend

Engineers take on Clarkson and St. Lawrence at the Houston Field House this Friday (7pm) and Saturday (7pm), respectively

HOMESTAND CONTINUES
Rensselaer resumes its six-game homestand on Friday and Saturday, when it hosts North Country-rivals Clarkson and St. Lawrence ... The stretch of 10 straight games in the Capital Region comes to an end next weekend, when the Engineers host Ohio State for a pair. 

NO. 16 YALE TOPS ENGINEERS LATE
Yale erased a 2-0 deficit with three minutes to play in the third period to beat the Engineers, 3-2 in overtime, on November 5 ... After a scoreless first period, junior Drew Melanson gave the hosts a 1-0 lead late in the second ... Classmate Viktor Lijegren tipped home a shot by Mike Prapavessis for a 2-0 advantage at 14:33 of the third ... Frankie DiChiara brought Yale within 2-1 at 17:01, before John Hayden netted the tying goal with 18 seconds left in regulation ... Hayden then potted the game-winning, just 23 seconds into the extra frame ... Chase Perry made 35 saves for RPI, while Patrick Spano had 19 for the Bulldogs.

RENSSELAER UPENDS BROWN
Junior Drew Melanson netted a pair of goals to lead the Engineers to a 3-1 win over Brown on November 4 ... He opened the scoring at 14:17 of the second, before classmate Jared Wilson doubled the RPI advantage 19 seconds into the third period ... Brent Beaudoin made it a 2-1 game at 18:37, before Melanson netted an empty-netter with 34 seconds to go ... Chase Perry stopped 27 shots for his first victory with the Engineers ... Gavin Nieto took the loss for Brown, registering 28 saves.

UNION SWEEPS SERIES
RPI dropped its first two ECAC Hockey games of the season, falling to Union by scores of 4-1 and 3-2 in overtime ... The Dutchmen scored the first four goals in the opener, with junior Jared Wilson pulling one goal back for Rensselaer with a power play tally in the third period ... In the series finale, senior captain Riley Bourbonnais twice answered Union goals with tie the game at 1-1 and 2-2, before Union senior captain Mike Vecchione ended the contest 1:06 into OT ... Sophomore goaltender Chase Perry made 37 saves, including 15 in the first period alone.

CAPTAINS ANNOUNCED
Eleventh-year head coach Seth Appert has announced that seniors Riley Bourbonnais and Jimmy DeVito will wear the 'C' for the 2016-17 season, while classmate Parker Reno will serve as the lone alternate.

MODEL OF CONSISTENCY
Dating back to last season, senior captain Riley Bourbonnais has at least one point in 21 out of 24 weekends, including all five this season ... Sophomore Evan Tironese picked up right where he left off after getting injured six games into the 2015-16, with 20 points (4 goals, 16 assists) in 15 career games.

SPECIAL TEAMS
The Engineers enter the weekend with the 12th-best penalty kill in the nation at 89.1% (49 for 55) ... On the man advantage, RPI is converting at a 12.7% rate (7 for 55), including 7.7% (1 for 13) last weekend.

SHORTHANDED GOALS
RPI's three shorthanded goals are good for fourth in the nation ... Senior Riley Bourbonnais' two shorties are tied with nine other players for the most in the country.

SCOUTING CLARKSON
The Golden Knights are led offensively by senior Jordan Boucher, who has seven goals and four assists for 11 points ... Junior Sam Vigneault (3 goals, 7 assists) has 10 points, while freshman Devin Brosseau (1 goal, 7 assists) has eight.

GOLDEN KNIGHTS GOALTENDING
Freshman Jake Kielly (3-4-1) has started seven of the team's 10 games between the pipes, carrying a 2.99 goals against average and a .904 save percentage ... Senior Ville Runola (1-0-0) has a 1.89 goals against average and a .940 save percentage, while classmate Steve Perry (0-1-0) has a 9.21 goals against average and a .750 save percentage.

ALL-TIME SERIES VS. CLARKSON
RPI is 50-88-11 overall against Clarkson all-time ... The 88 losses are the most the Engineers have suffered against any time in school history ... The last six meetings have been split evenly, 2-2-2, with both Rensselaer wins coming in the 2014-15 playoff series in Potsdam.

2015-16 VS. THE GOLDEN KNIGHTS
Clarkson took the season series, 1-0-1, in 2015-16, earning a 2-2 tie at home on November 6, 2015, before upending the Engineers, 4-2, in Troy on February 6, 2016.

FOR ST. LAWRENCE
The Saints are paced by senior blueliner Gavin Bayreuther, who has four goals and nine assists for 13 points in 10 games ... Junior Joe Sullivan (5 goals, 4 assists) and sophomore Jacob Prichard (3 goals, 6 assists) have nine points apiece.

SLU GOALTENDING
Junior Kyle Hayton (5-3-1) has started nine of the Saints 10 games, posting a 2.57 goals against average and a .922 save percentage ... He has two shutouts, in including the 10th of his career, which set a new school record ... Sophomore Arthur Brey (0-1-0) has one start, with a 3.16 goals against average and a .920 save percentage.

ALL-TIME VS. THE SAINTS
The own a 57-81-6 record against St. Lawrence all-time ... The series dates back to January 3, 1951, when the Saints came away with a 7-2 victory ... The two teams have split the last 10 meetings, 5-5, but St. Lawrence owns a 5-2 mark in the last seven.
