Andreas Kontopidis netted a game high 33 points, pulled down 11 rebounds and led the Engineers past Southern Vermont 75-67 in the consolation game of the Tri State Shootout. With the win, RPI improves to 6-3 while the Mountaineers fall to 2-8.
Kontopidis was outstanding for RPI collecting his 33 points on 10-19 shooting. He went 5-10 from beyond the arc and salted the game away at the FT line in the final seconds. For his efforts, he was named to the All Tournament team.
The Engineers led from start to finish. They pulled away late in the first half and led 37-26 at the half. They would extend to a 14 point lead in the second half, but SVC would rally and make a game of it behind Rayshawn Taylor and Nate Goldsmith. The duo combined for 47 points, including 29 in the closing half.
SVC would get within three points in the final two minutes, but Kontopidis would drill his final three of the night and seal the victory for the Engineers.
Jonathon Luster added 21 points for RPI and had 4 assists.
Brian Hatcher notched a double double of 11 points and 12 boards before fouling out. RPI shot 43% in the game.
SVC was led by All Tournament selection Taylor. The senior ended with 28 points on 8-21 shooting. Goldsmith finished with 19 points, including 14 in the closing half. He also pulled down 8 rebounds for SVC. Davante Jordan ended with 13 points and 4 assists.
