NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's basketball team posted a 65-48 win over Norwich University to claim the Ed Hockenbury Classic Championship.

With Sunday's win, RPI concluded the two-day tournament with a 5-2 overall record after defeating Bridgewater State University on Saturday, 80-65. The Engineers' Jonathan Luster captured the tournament's Most Outstanding Player honors, joining teammate Brian Hatcher on the All-Tournament team.

Norwich was led by sophomore Daniel Haimes and his 15 points. He added a team-best three steals and hauled in three rebounds, while junior Mike Hogervorst shot 7-for-11 from the floor, scoring 14 points.

The Cadets took an early 4-3 lead after a layup from junior Ryan Fitzgerald, but a 10-point scoring run by the Engineers put the hosts in a 13-4 hole. Fitzgerald reduced his team's deficit to two with a layup at the 4:53 mark of the first half but an eight-point scoring run by RPI once again created a sizeable deficit.

Down by a 29-23 margin at halftime, Haimes made three-straight triples in the first five minutes of the second half to shrink the RPI lead to 36-34, but 13-straight points by the Engineers ended any chance of a Norwich comeback. The Engineers' lead grew to 19 points after a Luster three-point basket with just under a minute remaining.

Luster led his team with 16 points and six assists. Hatcher tallied 11 points with seven rebounds while Nate Kane joined Hatcher with seven rebounds. The Engineers finished with 21 assists in the contest.

In the first game of the afternoon, Bridgewater State posted a program-record 121 points in a convincing victory over Maine-Augusta. The Moose, who scored 77 points in the defeat, fell to 2-9 overall on the year while the Bears improve to 4-3 on the season. All-Tournament team selection Fawaz Mass scored 20 points for Bridgewater State, equaling the scoring output by Rocky DeAndrade. Greg Romanko scored 19 points and Matthieu Midouin tallied 11 points off the bench for the Bears. Jordan Holmes earned All-Tournament team honors for the Moose.
