Men's Basketball Faces Skidmore on Friday Night

GAMEDAY: The Engineers host Liberty League foe Skidmore to East Campus Arena for RPI's second straight home game and second of three in a row ... RPI hosts Union on Saturday at 4pm.

KEY GAMES: Rensselaer's opponents this weekend enter Friday's action in a three-way tie for second place in the Liberty League standings with the regular season coming to an end soon ... Vassar is also in that group, all with 7-5 conference records.

LAST TIME OUT: The Engineers played Bard on Tuesday night, losing to the Raptors 63-53 despite 28 points and five steals from freshman Tom Horvat ... Junior Jonathan Luster scored 10 points with four rebounds, four assists and a steal for RPI ... Skidmore's last game was February 2 when it lost at league leading St. Lawrence, 69-53.

CLOSE TO HIGHEST: Freshman Tom Horvat's 28 points on Tuesday night was one point off his career-high ... He has scored 29 points twice previously, December 1 vs. Middlebury and January 30 at Hobart.

LEADING THE WAY: Rensselaer has been led in scoring in 12 games by freshman Tom Horvat ... Senior Tyler Gendron has been tops on the team in four games, while classmate Chase Almond has led the team twice ... Andreas Kontopidis, Nate Kane and Asa Barnhill have done so once each ... Horvat has led the team in three of the last four.

ON THE GLASS: Engineers senior Chase Almond, who is among the leaders in the Liberty League in rebounding, has led RPI in that category in 11 games ... Freshman Marcus Giese is  second with four, followed by Tyler Gendron and Jonathan Luster, both of whom have done so three times apiece.

SKIDMORE OF LATE: The Thoroughbreds are 5-2 in their last seven games with three of those victories being on the road ... The game in Troy is the fourth straight away from Saratoga Springs for the defending league champions.

FIRST MEETING: On January 23, Rensselaer used a balanced offense and timely first-half defense on the way to a 68-60 win over Skidmore ... RPI played seven players, with five scoring in double figures ... Tyler Gendron scored 13 off the bench and had seven boards and three assists ... Nate Kane and Jonathan Luster added 11 points each, while Tom Horvat and Asa Barnhill contributed 10 apiece ... Marcus Giese pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds ... Skidmore's Erik Sanders had a game-high 20 points and 10 rebounds and Edvinas Rupkus scored 15 points

LAST SEASON: The Thoroughbreds won both meetings last season, capturing a 59-40 victory in Troy on January 10 and winning 77-58 in Saratoga Springs on February 13.
