Selander Saves 50 in 3-3 Tie with Princeton

Tigers claw back for draw with Engineers

PRINCETON, N.J. - Freshman Karlie Lund scored the game-tying goal as the No. 8 ranked Princeton hockey team skated to a 3-3 tie with Rensselaer on Friday night at Hobey Baker Rink.

Junuor Fiona McKenna put the Tigers on the board first with her fourth goal of the season with help from sophomore defender Emily Achterkirch.

RPI's Shayna Tomlinson scored twice in the second period to give her team the lead. She even things up with a power-play goal at 6:15. Positioned at the left post, she roofed a shot over the shoulder of netminder Kimberly Newell with Jenn Godin and Alexa Gruschow assisting. The go-ahead goal came nine minutes later, at 15:44. Lauren Walsh came around the back out the net, fed Amanda Kimmerle at the point and Kimmerle's wrister was tipped in front by Tomlinson.

The Tigers came out firing on all cylinders in the third but it took nearly 12 minutes to get the equalizer. Sophomore Kiersten Falck tied it at 11:42 with a shot from inside the right circle with freshman defender Stephanie Sucharda and McKenna assisting.

The elation was short-lived as RPI answered less than a minute later. Gruschow stole the puck behind the goal and went in alone for the unassisted goal at 12:23.

Lund's 16th goal of the season at 16:59 made it a 3-3 game. Morgan Sly and Cassidy Tucker had the assists on the tic-tac-toe goal.

Lovisa Selander made 50 saves in the tie for RPI as Princeton outshot the Engineers 53-27. Newell stopped 24 for the Tigers.
