RPI Athletics on FacebookCANTON, N.Y. - Junior Kyle Edwards scored 27 points to lead the St. Lawrence University men's basketball team to an 81-62 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Sophomore
Asa Barnhill led the Engineers with 11 points.
St. Lawrence (12-8 overall, 8-4 Liberty League) remained in first place in the Liberty League standings a full game ahead of three teams tied for second with Skidmore, RIT and Union all tied with 7-5 records. RPI falls to 10-10 and 4-7.
The Saints jumped out to an early lead and had a double-digit advantage just five minutes into the contest as Edwards connected on a pair of 3-pointers followed by a Riley Naclerio 3-pointer as St. Lawrence had an 11-1 lead. Edwards finished with 27 points on 10-of-14 shooting including 7-of-10 3-pointers.
After RPI trimmed the lead back to five, the Saints went on a 13-0 run that was started by an Edwards 3-pointer and capped by a layup as St. Lawrence jumped to a 20-point lead at 26-6 with just nine minutes gone in the first half. The teams went into the halftime intermission with St. Lawrence holding a 17-point lead at 39-22.
The Saints continued to build on the lead in the second half, though the Engineers trimmed it back to 19 points over the final five minutes of the contest.
Barnhill was Rensselaer's lone double-digit scorer.

Marcus Giese had eight points and 12 rebounds with three assists.
