RPI Athletics on InstagramKINGSTON, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's lacrosse team shook off a slow start and routed Bard College, 18-3, in a Liberty League game on Saturday afternoon.
The Engineers improved to 4-2 overall, 1-1 in the Liberty League. RPI has won three straight games and four of its last five. Bard is 2-4, 0-1.
Bard scored first, and RPI had a 3-2 lead after an evenly-played first quarter, but it all changed in the second quarter. The Engineers scored four goals in the first six minutes to make it 7-2, and it was 11-2 at halftime after a 8-0 second quarter.
RPI scored the only goal in the third quarter, then the first four of the fourth quarter, making it a 13-0 run. After Bard scored its third goal, RPI tacked on two more, including one at the buzzer.
Fifteen different players scored for the Engineers.
Matthew Gilman (St. Louis, MO),
Jake Weidner (Chula Vista, CA) and
Jordan Gans (Palo Alto, CA) each scored twice;
Patrick Finn (North Easton, MA) had a goal and two assists.
Bard got two goals from George Goceljak (Flemington, NJ) and one from Blake Burnley (Amherst, NH).
Next up for RPI is a non-league game at Plattsburgh State on Wednesday at 4.
