TROY, N.Y. - Chloe Knapp scored a game-high four goals, including three in the second half, to lead the St. Lawrence University women's lacrosse team to an 8-3 win over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), on Saturday at Renwyck Field. With the win, the Saints improve to 9-7 overall (5-3 Liberty League), while the Engineers drop to 6-7 (2-5 Liberty League).
RPI got off to a fast start, as senior
Mackenzie O'Neil tallied less than five minutes into the game for a 1-0 lead. Classmate
Sara Bischof then netted her first of the season to give the Engineers a 2-0 edge at 10:45.
Knapp got the visitors on the board less than a minute later, but O'Neil's second goal of the game and 19th of the year gave RPI a 3-1 lead at the break.
The Saints worked quickly the begin the second half, drawing even at 3-3, less than a minute in. Knapp and Greta Massey tallied at 26 seconds and 44 seconds to erase the deficit.
Knapp then gave St. Lawrence the lead for good at 9:40 of the second half, off a feed from Julia Mitiguy.
Finishing the game on a 7-0 run, the Saints outshot Rensselaer, 15-8 in the second half, including 11-3 on goal. SLU also won the turnover battle, 23-11.
RPI senior
Heather MacLauchlan (0-2) made seven saves on 12 shots, while freshman
Rebecca Wilen stopped three of six. Olga Lukas made six saves for St. Lawrence
The Engineers are back in action next weekend, when they travel to Rochester and RIT on Friday (4pm) and Saturday (2pm), respectively, to close out the regular season. The Saints travel to Clarkson on Saturday for their regular season finale (3pm).
